“I’m Just A Little Person”
(Just to save myself all that rewinding work…)
I’ve been catching up on my internet, and one of my favorite new things is the Synecdoche, New York trailer. “Just A Little Person,” the song that starts at about 1:28 really grabbed me — I’ve been rewinding the YouTube over and over to listen to the first verse. According to the usually not so reliable Yahoo Answers, it’s from Jon Brion, which makes sense as he also did the soundtracks to Magnolia and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, among others. He nails the mixture of pathos, absurdity and good humor that seems like a common thread in the films he’s involved in, and the music is well-matched to go with visuals. Or, possibly, it was written by Charlie Kaufman and sung by Deanna Storey. Either way, the song in Synecdoche isn’t online yet, as far as I can tell (it’ll be out with the soundtrack, presumably sometime in October), but the instrumental theme from ETOTSM has some of the same feel, as does the song Here We Go on his MySpace page.
Radiohead’s “Creep,” as covered by an Belgian all-girl choir, Scala, and conducted by the the Kolacny brothers. (Found via xoxoadrienne; find song here)
